About the class
The Wellington Music Centre Raucoustra is a fun, social and completely free music ensemble that is open to all kids ages 8-12. This is not a traditional orchestra, it's a joyful, exploratory, and sometimes raucous musical adventure, led by the brilliant teaching pair of violinist Miru Shimaoka and percussionist/guitarist Esteban Ureña. The Raucoustra is a place where kids can use their playing skills to express themselves, and learn about how group music is put together. The Raucoustra focuses on improvisation as a pathway to growing confidence and creativity in music. Through musical games, exercises, and songs, participants will develop key musicianship skills: - attentive listening to other players - confidence in creating and sharing ideas - playing in time and in tune - learning melodies 'by ear' (i.e. without written music notes) - knowledge of many instruments - introductions to scales, chords, and musical structures All instruments are welcome, including strings, wind, brass, keyboard, guitar and drums/percussion. --- Time: 10:30 - 11:15am every Saturday (during school terms) Place: Room 1 Miramar North School Teachers: Miru and Esteban Level: Participants must have played their instrument for 1-2 years.
