Another joyful, noisy, musical extravaganza is coming up!
Once again the Wellington Music Centre is gathering all our students, whānau, and participants of all ages for a joyful morning of music-making. This is not a concert... it's an informal workshop where we make lots of wonderful sounds and transform the community into a resounding band and choir! Everyone is invited, so bring your friends and whānau. Free tea, coffee and snacks are provided. See you there!
Here's all the info you'll need about the 2025 Summer Community Day:
Location:
St Patrick's Hall
17 Rongotai Road, Kilbirnie
Note this is not at St Patrick's college
Date:
Saturday 6th December
Time:
10:00am - 11:30am
Community Day Workshop
11:30pm - 12:30pm
Food, jamming, and community time
Price:
Koha / free

Hine e Hine - Princess Te Rangi Pai

What to bring:
Students of WMC should bring their instrument/s and all the music they'll need for the day. Music stands will be provided.
Whānau and visitors to WMC only need to bring themselves and their voices!
Bring a water bottle, as it can get quite hot. Chocolate or other gifts for your child's teacher are a great way to show your appreciation!
Venue and Parking
St Patrick's Hall is on the main road in Kilbirnie. There is no parking at the venue, but plenty of on-street parking in surrounding roads. There are also some spaces at the Kilbirnie Recreation Centre.
What will the workshop involve?
All Wellington Music Centre students have been learning the same two songs, and on the day we put everyone together into a resounding band and choir. Parents, caregivers and visitors are invited to sing along.
We'll also do musical games and warm-ups with the whole crowd, and listen to student performances.
Bring-a-plate
WMC will be providing some free food, tea and coffee for everyone, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. If you'd like to support the event by bringing some food to share, we'd love that! Sweet or savoury foods are both welcome, just remember to:
label your container so it doesn't go missing
note down or let us know what ingredients are in your food (especially nuts, eggs, milk, gluten, meat, etc)
drop your food at the kitchen when you arrive
pick up your container when you leave!
Bringing food is not required. Bake/cook up a storm if you like, but your presence is the only thing that really matters to us! There will be plenty to share. We will also be making sure everyone adheres to food safety procedures, including washing/sanitising hands.
Are there regular lessons on the day?
No, the workshops will replace the regular lessons on 6th December.
When will food be served?
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available before and after the workshop.
Free kai will be available at 11:30am after the workshop.
Can I come if I don't have any kids/relatives in the WMC programme?
Yep! If you love music, care about the community, and would like to see what local kids are doing at WMC, you're invited. Bring the kids and make some friends!
Can I still join in if I don't play an instrument?
Absolutely! We'll be teaching the words and melodies for everyone to sing along in the workshops.
