WMC Community Day! All the info you'll need

Updated: Jun 12

Kia ora everyone! WMC's Community Day 2024 is coming up! Everyone is invited to join students and staff of the Wellington Music Centre at our fun 1-hour workshops on Saturday June 22nd 2024. We'll be making music together at St Patrick's Hall in Kilbirnie, followed by time to eat, hang out, and meet as a community. Remember there are no regular lessons on that day!

Here's all the info you'll need about the WMC community day:

Location: St Patrick's Hall

17 Rongotai Road, Kilbirnie

Date: Saturday 22nd June

Time: Workshop 1

10:00am - 11:00am

Workshop 2

11:30am - 12:30pm

Price: Free!

Music: Day-O (Banana Boat Song)

Burning Down the House

Stand by Me

(lyrics and melodies will be taught on the day)

What to bring:

Students of WMC should bring their instrument/s and all the music they'll need to play along. Music stands will be provided. Students are more than welcome to sit with their parents if that would be more comfortable, or if they haven't learned one of the pieces we'll be playing.

Visitors to WMC only need to bring themselves and their voices!

Venue and Parking

St Patrick's Hall is on the main road in Kilbirnie. There is no parking at the venue, but plenty of on-street parking in surrounding roads. There are also some spaces at the Kilbirnie Recreation Centre.

Please note this hall is not at St Patrick's College

Bring-a-plate

WMC will be providing some warm soup, tea and coffee for everyone, including vegetarian and vegan options. If you'd like to support the event by bringing some food to share, we'd love that! Sweet or savoury foods are both welcome, just remember to:

  • label your container so it doesn't go missing

  • note down or let us know what ingredients are in your food (especially nuts, eggs, milk, gluten, meat, etc)

  • drop your food at the kitchen when you arrive

  • pick up your container when you leave!

Bringing food is not required. Bake/cook up a storm if you like, but your presence is the only thing that really matters to us! There will be plenty to share. We will also be making sure everyone adheres to food safety procedures, including washing/sanitising hands.

Are there regular lessons on the day?

No, the workshops will replace the regular lessons on 22nd June.

Should I come to both workshops or just one?

Just one. The two workshops will be the same, so you only need to attend one unless you've been asked to join both by your teacher (or you're having a great time and want to stick around!)

Which workshop should I come to?

Either! We recommend you attend whichever is closest to your usual lessons times, or is most convenient for your whānau.

When will food be served?

Food will be available immediately after each workshop.

Can I come if I don't have any kids/relatives in the WMC programme?

Yep! If you love music, care about the community, and would like to see what local kids are doing at WMC, you're invited. Bring the kids and make some friends!

Can I still join in if I don't play an instrument?

Absolutely! We'll be teaching the words and melodies for everyone to sing along in the workshops.
