Enrolments for 2026 are not open yet.
If your kids were enrolled in a 2025 class, we'll contact you in January about 2026 enrolments. You don't need to do anything for now.
New to Wellington Music Centre? Join the 2026 contact list and you'll be notified when we open enrolments to the public.
New classes coming in 2026
We asked our community at a feedback session in August what you wanted at WMC, and the answer was clear: more opportunities for your kids to learn together, make music together, encounter many instruments, and build friendships. We listened, and starting next year, we're providing more opportunities than ever before for WMC kids to foster their love of music.
'How Music Works' classes included for all level 1 students: Alongside their usual instrument class, all level 1 students will be able to join an extra 30-minute How Music Works class. In these fun group sessions, students will learn all about the world of music and develop many musical skills, including singing, listening, keeping a beat, reading sheet music, and music theory.
Music groups for all level 2/3 students: Alongside their usual instrument class, all level 2 and level 3 students are invited to join either the Raucoustra or the Miramar Kids Choir, described below. These music groups will empower our older kids to start using their instrumental and singing skills to make music together. There is no extra cost to join these groups.
There is no extra charge to join How Music Works, the Raucoustra or the Miramar Kids Choir. All of these programmes are included in the 2026 enrolment fee.

2026 Enrolment Information
All of our instrumental and vocal classes are continuing as usual in 2026: keyboard, guitar, violin, cello, percussion, flute, saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, harp, ukulele and voice.
We will notify current students via email when enrolments open in early-mid January. Current students will have a chance to book a 2026 class before we open enrolments publicly.
WMC is increasing the amount we charge for music classes next year by around 20%. This is because we are receiving less funding from the Ministry of Education than in 2025. We're committed to paying our staff a living wage and delivering a quality programme, meaning our whānau need to share more cost to keep our centre sustainable. We're doing our best to keep price rises to a minimum, and will be seeking funding through other charitable or public funds. The price for instrument hire is not going up.
We are determined to continue investing in our wonderful tamariki and community, growing and enriching our programme. We think the WMC service still offers great value for young musicians, especially with the addition of the How Music Works classes and music groups, which are included in the cost of enrolment.
We believe affordability should not be a barrier to a quality music education. Please reach out if our fees are a challenge for your whānau. We're keen to support you!

What else is happening?
There's lots going on at WMC! Here are some of the programmes we run on Saturday mornings that your kids can join next year:
Peninsula Family Choir (ages 0-99+)
FREE
Led by our fantastic song leader Sharon, this group is a place for our community to meet, socialise and have fun making music together! People of all generations are invited to come along and sing as a family.
Music Explorers (ages 5-6)
In this special class for our smallest musicians, kids and parents can have fun together learning about music. Together you'll get started with singing, rhythm, listening and playing instruments.
Miramar Kids Choir (ages 7-12)
FREE
Creating a fun, encouraging space for kids in Miramar and South Wellington to get singing! The choir performs all kinds of music, including folk songs, pop songs, and music from around the world.
Raucoustra (ages 8+)
FREE
Our 'raucous orchestra', the Raucoustra isn't a traditional orchestra, it's a joyful, exploratory, and sometimes raucous musical adventure, led by the brilliant teachers violinist Miru Shimaoka and percussionist Esteban Ureña. The Raucoustra is a place where kids can use their playing skills to express themselves, and learn about how group music is put together.
